JoJo Howell, MA, M.T.S., LPC

JoJo is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC013455) specializing in working with anxiety, self esteem, relationship challenges, young adulthood transition, motherhood transition/postpartum concerns, midlife transition, divorce recovery, grief/loss, depression. She desires to offer clients a “safe container” where they can show up as their authentic selves while they explore difficult feelings related to such topics as family of origin, self concept, and identity.

JoJo brings the wisdom of her own lived experience into her therapy practice. Having faced various life challenges in her own life, JoJo understands the courage it takes to move forward into healing and freedom.

JoJo’s perspective is informed in great part by the thinking of C.G. Jung and his ideas about the Self and the process of individuation.  There is a mystery around how an individual develops a sense of self, and around the “dynamic force which pilots the individual on her journey through life”.   JoJo’s goal in therapy is to act as the client’s co-pilot, helping her navigate her journey and her ability to identify the meaning behind her experience.  Therapy is an important tool for the client because the therapeutic relationship creates conditions which offer the best opportunity for the development of insight, which opens a new world of freedom and choice to the client. With patience, empathy, and respect for the client’s unique way of experiencing her life, the counselor shares her client’s journey and helps her develop a greater capacity to tolerate the necessary discomforts which accompany her self discovery.

After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Religious Studies, JoJo went on to complete her Master’s degree in Theology at Boston University. She later decided to pursue a career in counseling and received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University.

Prior to working at Cultivate, she worked at Hope Counseling Center and The Men’s Center at MARR (Metro Atlanta Recovery Residences) providing group and individual counseling.

It is her desire to provide relational, competent, client-centered counseling where she serves as a guide helping the client discover and rediscover her true self.

JoJo is the mother of two adult sons, one of whom lives with a diagnosis of autism. She enjoys spending time outdoors camping, hiking, and exploring the natural world with her 2 yellow labs. She is also an experienced seamstress, knitter, and quilter.
