postpartum therapy & motherhood transition
Postpartum Therapy in Atlanta and Support for New Moms
No one’s journey in motherhood is the same…
Motherhood. This word means something different to every woman throughout our nation and world and across cultures and generations. Every mother has a unique story that is valuable and honorable. As women navigate the childbearing years that can be marked by pregnancy, infertility, grief and loss, birth trauma, and postpartum mood changes, they need to be “mothered” themselves. This longing that women have to be “mothered” – or to be seen, supported and attended to during the perinatal period — is not often acknowledged. All women deserve informed professional care around mental health issues related to childbearing.
At Cultivate, we want to support you wherever you are in your
motherhood journey…
Therapy for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Perinatal (during and after pregnancy) mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are related to mood and anxiety symptoms that occur during pregnancy and up to one year postpartum. There is not a single cause for PMADs, and symptoms likely result from a combination of biological, genetic, psychological, and environmental factors in your life. These symptoms include sadness and depression, irritability, difficulty bonding with your baby, anxiety or panic, problems with eating or sleeping, upsetting and unproductive thoughts, questioning your ability as a parent, and worry over hurting your baby or yourself.
While it is natural for women to experience mild mood changes in pregnancy and postpartum, mood symptoms can become severe enough to require professional support. The symptoms related to postpartum mood disorders respond well to treatment; there is great hope for a woman experiencing a PMAD to feel like herself again.
